Q: iphoto to iCloud on a mac

I have 11,000 photos in iphoto. I want to move them to iCloud. I went to iPhoto and clicked on iCloud. There was a counter on the top right of the page. It started with a certain number and then keeps uploading to iCloud. It is presently at 7700. However I cannot find these pictures and when I check my photo stream, all the pictures are not there. Any ideas on what is taking place or a different procedure to download to iCloud? Thanks.

Are you really using iPhoto?  iPhoto cannot upload to iCloud Photo Library, onlyPhotos for Mac can.

Which application are you using?  And which iCloud service?

    • iCloud Photo Library can hold your complete Photos Library in iCloud, but it requires the Photos for Mac application, and a subscription for enough iCloud Storage.
    • My Photo Stream is available in iPhoto and Photos for Mac. It is independent of the paid iCloud Storage, but it can only hold the most recent 1000 photos, and only for at most 30 days.  It is meant for streaming photos between devices, not as a permanent cloud storage.
    • Shared albums can hold photos and videos as long as you wish, but only at a reduced size.

What version of the OS and of iPhoto do you have? iPhoto can not load photos to iCloud - that is a feature exclusive to Photos
