Hard Drive unrecognized

Portable USB Hard Drives HDTD210XS3E1 (Toshiba) is the Hard drive I have used. I reconnected it the other day to do a backup and the HD is not recognizable at all by my Macbook pro. I have searched for it in Disk Utilities and in Finder and nothing. The HD turns on and runs but no connection to my Mac. Please someone post the steps to get it to connect again!??!?!

have you rebooted the computer?

Tried another cable?

Tried another USB port?

Tried on another computer?

- Is the drive self-powered, that is only powered by the USB bus? If so it could be that the USB port does not provided enough power. You can try a powered USB hub. You can also get a USB pigtail that takes power from to USB ports to the single USB port on the drive like this one.

- Does it show in System Profiler under USB? You should see the chipset in the enclosure as well as the HD itself

Maybe the drive or electronics in the enclosure failed.
