Q: Installing El Capitan

We presently have an OS X Ve, 10.9.5 . I want to have my photos from iPhoto go into the Photos for Mac. I found the easiest way to do this was to download the newest version X EL Capitan as Photos for Mac is part of this OS.

However after waiting for a long time for the download to occur, there was a message saying they needed a password for the administrator of the program. I entered the passwords I have been using but to no effect. Is this a new password I need or am I missing  something? Thanks.

iPhoto '11, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Users on a computer can have Administrator rights or Standard rights (System Preferences > Users & Groups).  You need the password for an Administrator account on the computer.

Traditionally that password is the one you use to log into your account on your computer.  If you have powered off your computer and started it up again, what password do you enter to get into your account?  This should be the password that is required.
