Q: Syncing issues with iCloud and Photos

I recently discovered that I was missing some older pictures on Apple Photos and iCloud. It's about a years worth of photos from 2014. I think they went missing right around the time Apple dropped iPhoto and switched to the Photos program. I was able to locate the pictures in my old iPhoto Library and was able to import them to Apple Photos - so I have them on my computer - but they are not automatically syncing to iCloud.

I like to have all my photos backed up on iCloud - I've searched all the FAQs and user forums but can't find a description of this particular problem.

Any thoughts on how I can get iCloud to import these newly added photos?

Mac mini (Late 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

a few thoughts - although with so little information we can only make guesses

1 - get up to date - you state you  have OS X 10.10.5 - you are six updates behind - the current version is El Captain OS X 10.11.6 - it have many bug fixes and lots of new features

2 - give us your iCloud settings and status on the Mac and on each IOS device

3 - iCloud is not a backup  - it is a syncing service - you need a system with the originals downloaded and a backup in addition to iCloud Photo Library

    LN,

Thank you for the insight - I updated to the latest version of El Capitan - still didn't help.  The photos were available in "Photos" but there was about a year's worth missing on iCloud including our Hawaii vacation...finally figured out I could copy the files from "Photos" to my desktop then export to iCloud as new photos. Worked perfectly including all the metadata.

And yes I understand iCloud is not a backup service - I also use Time Machine, but I like the piece of mind that I have copies stored somewhere offsite.

    Thank you,
