spinning wheel and computer speed

3 days ago I formatted my Mac to start from scratch again. However, I have the feeling that the speed of my pc is not normal yet.

Starting up takes over 1 minute (faster than before, but is this usual for mac?), and from time to time the coloured spinning wheel is on my screen. Up till now there is almost no data on my computer since I still have to move my documents such 100 GB of pictures.

Could it be that some hardware is broken or am I totally exagerating?
