how can I convert text to table in Pages 5.6.2?

I have a Macbook Pro 17" early 2011, 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

OS X El Capitan 10.11.5

Pages 5.6.2


I went to Help>Pages help, and typed in "text to table". In the window that opened, I went to "All Other Help (63)", Working with Tables. Clicked on that link. In the window that opened, there is an option that says "Convert text into a table and vice versa, and I clicked on the link "Converting Text to a Table". In the window that opened, it said this:

"Here are ways to convert between text and tables:

  • To convert text to a table, select the text, and choose Format > Table > “Convert Text to Table.”When Pages encounters a paragraph return, it creates a new row. When Pages encounters a tab stop, it creates a new column.
  • To convert a table to text, select the table, and choose Format > Table > “Convert Table to Text.”


I said, "Hooray", and went back to Pages 5.6.2. I selected text, chose Format >Table > , and then......

There's no "Convert Text to Table" option.


Can someone tell me how to convert Text to Table in Pages version 5.6.2 (2573)

Hi Bobby,


As you've noticed, the Text to Table and Table to Text menu items of Pages '09 did not make it into Pages 3.


Conversion in either direction is relatively simple, though.


Text to Table:


The text to go in each cell must be separated by tabs.

The end of a row must be marked with a return

Thes are the same requirements as in the previous version of Pages.


Select the text to be placed in a table.

Cut (command-X) or, if you're cautious, Copy (command-C)


Click the Table button and choose the style of Table you want to Insert.

Click (once) on the cell to contain the first piece of the text. Paste.

Pages will automatically add rows and columns to accommodate the text.


If it is on the same Document, select and delete the original text.



Table to Text:


Select all cells of the Table containing text. Copy

Click on the "T" button to insert a Text Box in the document.

Click on the placeholder text inside the box to select it. Paste.

To place that text into the Body text:

Select the text in the Text Box. Copy.

Place the insertion point in the text stream where you want the copied text to be inserted. Paste.


Clean up:

Select and delete the parts that were used in converting to Text/Table to Table/Text, but that you do not want to keep in the document.
