Aug 4, 2016 3:57 AM in response to Couchcowboyby dialabrain,One thing you are doing wrong is posting multiple posts about the same problem. No one wants to trace back through your previous posts to see what you are talking about. That's why duplicate posts are frowned upon.
As far as why you haven't had any replies, one reason would be the above. Another reason is no one has come up with an idea that may help yet.

Aug 4, 2016 6:24 AM in response to dialabrainby Couchcowboy,Thank you dialabrain for your response. Even a negative post is better than nothing. I've always preferred to be told "no" rather than be ignored. So, you think waiting three weeks before posting again isn't long enough? Do you think it's better to restate all the same information? Like I said in the previous post, if anyone thinks there is no solution, say so. At least your response lets me know I'm doing it correctly, because I wasn't sure. Since I am not a programmer, all I wanted to know on the last post was if the crash logs were significant or not in a bare bones El Capitan installation. Looking back at the previous posts weren't really necessary to answer that question but were included in case anyone was curious. Perhaps I didn't state that fact clearly enough.

Aug 4, 2016 6:35 AM in response to Couchcowboyby Esquared,The length and complexity of you posts and reposts are a bit discouraging.
I've only glanced over them, and don't have a quick fix. In fact, my guess is that chances of finding a quick fix are slim. The time you have spent with composing your posts could also have been used to do a clean install. That is a drag, I know, but in the end it might very well be the best, and even the quickest way to fix things.

Aug 4, 2016 6:48 AM in response to Esquaredby Couchcowboy,Thank you so much Esquared for your response! I've already done a clean re-install......twice. I still had a crash of SpotlightNetHelper even with nothing else but El Capitan installed and no peripherals attached except my keyboard, mouse and trackpad. I was hoping someone could look at that last crash log and tell me if there's any significance to it and/or if there's anything else I could look at or do. I'll be happy to re-list all I've done previously, pre-clean install, but it's kinda irrelevant at this point I guess. I've also noticed that I am again getting the "XPC connection invalidated" responses in Console when typing in Spotlight even though I have nothing much on my computer and have used Spotlight very little. That was how my previous Spotlight crashes started before I did the clean install.
I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. I know everyone is busy and I'm trying to get back busy myself. Never knew how dependent I could become on a single feature like Spotlight!
PS: If the post look discouraging, they pale in comparison to how I feel!

Aug 4, 2016 6:50 AM in response to Couchcowboyby Barney-15E,I also have no idea what is causing your problem. You've already done all of the things I would have suggested.
I can't remember whether you did a clean install as Esquared suggested, but here is why it might work: If a program installs a Spotlight Importer that doesn't quite work right, any reinstalls will not erase that importer. The only way to remove it is to uninstall it. Erasing the drive and reinstalling the OS would get rid of it, too.
Nobody on this forum gets paid to help you short of the Community Specialists, but they only exist to respond to unresponded posts. Not sure why none of them chimed in on yours. I'm not sure how long they let them sit.
If you are getting problems with SpotlightNetHelper, disable Bing Searches in Spotlight and see if that helps.

Aug 4, 2016 7:01 AM in response to Barney-15Eby Couchcowboy,Thank you Barney-15E! I'm always happy to get replies from you upper level guys and gals!!! I just responded to Esquare to let him know I've already done a clean install on two different occasions and now only have El Capitan installed with no other apps, folders, files or peripherals and still getting crash reports and errors in Console. Perhaps I have a hardware problem and was just trying to be sure before doing something like order a new computer. I live a long way from an Apple store, so taking it in to a Apple Genius probably isn't going to be feasible right now. While I don't know how much it would cost to evaluate and repair, I'd be reluctant to put much money into a four year old computer, anyway, even though it is practically "new" since it's had very little use (was using it as a stand-by in case my 7 year old iMac went down).
Again, thanks for your time and insight! I have no idea how the Community Specialists work and thought I was doing something wrong or that even this $%#!!! iMac was out to get me!
PS: I always disable internet search on Bing and Spotlight suggestions. I only want it to search my computer.

Aug 4, 2016 7:12 AM in response to Couchcowboyby Couchcowboy,BTW, does anyone know what "Spotlight; XPC connection was invalidated" means? I've looked all over the internet and can only get an idea that's it's not good.
