Q: iBooks corrupts TOC in PDF

I have several PDFs with many bookmarks which show fine as a TOC opened directly in Preview. But when opened with iBooks they get corrupt. I cannot find why this is or resolve it so have had to load Acrobat Reader on all my devices. Can anyone help?

Every single time I have use Apple help or Googled for Mac related answers - I get results that seem promising until I find they relate to things long since removed or modified by Apple. Why is everything Mac either brilliant or total ****? And why don't they update the answers or stop continually modifying stuff that already world FFS?

Rant over! Help appreciated.

I have now worked though some of the quirks I think.

I found iBooks / Preview do not transfer PDF bookmarks created in Adobe or Master PDF Editor, which I thought had been resolved a while ago. So I use the Table of Contents. The big problem of ToC errors and misdirection I found to be due to needing to be set to Single Page View  - if it is the default (Continuous) it gets totally confused. It therefore has to be reset every time a PDF is opened if one wants to use the ToC.
