Q: SMB3, signing, and authbinding to LDAP server

Based on HT204021: If you can mount a file server using AFP but not SMB , it says that the file server needs to be authbound to the LDAP server in order for SMB3 signing to work. In situations where the directory server and file server are the *same* machine, does the server need to be authbound to itself? Seems silly, but my ElCap directory/file server spews complaints that authbound clients are not signed, every time a client logs in over the SMB3 protocol.

Clients are authbound to the OD master, which happens to also be the file server hosting network home folders for the OD users.

This is a clean install "test environment" with one server and three clients. All machines are running OS X 10.11.6. Server is running Server.app 5.1.7
