Q: Unable to view latest reply after logging in

I receive an email notification from a thread I'm following.

I click on the link in the email "go to the discussion".

I see the reply from the email, but when I login so I can reply, the reply is no longer visible.

My reply then sorts out of order in the thread because I have to select the general reply option.

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

    HI Diane ..

    It's ok for me.

If you are using Safari, from your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab then click Details then remove all Apple cookies.

When you're done quit and relaunch Safari. Hopefully the next time you get an email notification the latest reply will be available.

    Howdy, mi amiga!

    Phantom Posts, huh?

    1. Type " . " in reply to any post > [Reply] button
    2. reply to the Phantom Post that magically becomes visible

    OR

    1. Go to your Preferences page - the one that has the email "light switches" at the top
    2. choose whatever is NOT already chosen from the menu under "Discussions View"
    3. choose [Save] at the bottom of the page
    4. go back to the Phantom Post page (reload if your are jumping 'twixt TABs)
    5. Phantom Post should appear (if Apple hasn't figgered out how to defeat this method)
    6. put your Preference back how you like it (I cannot stand FLAT!)

I find the 2nd set of workaround preferable for two reasons - neat and tidy (no "." reply to confuse a  Neo-OP) - AND - if you experience one PP, you are likely to experience more... leaving the Prefs TAB open lets you make the toggle over and over easiest

I don't see Details. I'm using Safari Version 10.0 (12602.1.43). I do have Develop menu selected.

I checked in Safari Technology Preview and Chrome. All have the same problem. I set to "Always Allow" for Safari cookies and it seems to work, but that's not my preferred option.

It is NOT a cookie or cache problem.

It is a AppleJiveWare database issue - attaches itself to your UserID (yours is > data-userid="868120" < from Page Source)

This is proved by your (and everyone else) experience as Guest vs. LoggedUser (logout and presto! the PP appears)

    To see Details....

You need to open Safari Preferences. With Safari open press Command ,  (comma) to open Safari Preferences then select the Privacy tab then click:  Remove All Website Data

I still don't see Remove All Website Data. I have checked in El Capitan Safari.

I do have "Manage Web Site Data..." under Privacy and I can sort on apple and remove caches.

Won't matter, my friend. The bug is not caused by your local stuff!

I haven't used Safari in years, but in Firefox, some of those "places" can be REALLY obscure in the Options console.

Is "Website Data" the same thing as "browser cache"? If so, "organization" should be similar if not the same

    In Firefox, I would:

    1. Choose Tools
    2. Options
      new-blank.png

    1. Advanced
    2. Network
    3. Clear
    4. Clear (if required)

I have had no less than 5 Phantom Posts this morning... and I have not even followed up on all the email notices, so it could actually be more. My estimation is about 50% of followed up so far

No way to prove, but this usually indicates that Apple has thrown a switch or pulled a lever unannounced

    Behind_curtain.jpg

I have been told by an AppleHost, regarding a problem specific to me that seems tied to such things, that no such action has been taken - which I take with a grain of salt.
