Q: Apple TV Constantly Offline

I have a new 4th generation Apple TV hooked to my Time Capsule via ethernet. The Apple TV constantly shows as Offline from my devices. iPhone, iPad, Mac, etc. Other than that it works fine. Never had this issue with the 3rd generation Apple TV. I used ethernet with the 3rd generation as well. Anyone else having this issues or any ideas to resolve it?

    Try restarting your Apple TV.

To restart your Apple TV (4th generation), go to Settings > System > Restart.

The Apple TV is up to date software wise and I have already restarted, several times. If I use the Apple supplied remote it comes online and the devices see it. However, if I want to use the Apple TV Remote App from the iPhone, I have to bring it on line with hardware remote first. This happens with any device.

I also have this problem. I have 2 Apple TV 4th gens - a 32 and a 64gb. Only my 64GB does this. My 64gb and my iPhone plus are on the extender for my network where as the 32 gb is on my main router. The app turns my 32gb on without issue. Just as you described - I can not wake my 64gb up with the app but I can successfully control it via the app once I wake it with the physical remote. I just went into the app and removed the 64gb ATV4 from my list and used the physical remote to wake the ATV4-64gb and re-pair my phone. I slept the ATV4 with my app and closed the app on my phone. Reopening the app shows the 64gb as able to be woken up - but that could change. I hope this fixes my issue but if it doesnt, I hope there is an update to resolve it.

I have finally got it to work. I tried everything I could including a lot of suggestions online, one of which was to set up a third party remote. Some worked, but once asleep the iPhone could see it but not wake it up. Finally I tried something I do not normally do with a device like this. I set it to DHCP. Normally anything I run outside of a client machine (computer, iPad, iPhone) I set to a manual IP. Any servers, printers, NAS, Apple TV, etc is always manual. Since I set it to DHCP the iPhone can wake it up with no problem. I am using the Time Capsule and it is still hardwired. Even changing it to wireless would not work. You would think it would not matter.

I didnt even think to check that setting. Mine reverted to not working once I restarted my phone so I will have to ive this a try. This solution needs to be stickied somewhere as Im sure we cant be the only people having this problem. Also curious if my one that is functionig correctly is set up this way - it was previously another family member's and I never factory reset it.
