I have been manually downloading photos from iphone 5s to my Airbook. Most recently on July 12 because photos taken on my phone appear on my Mac up to that date. Now, when I connect via USB, my iphone 5s does not show up in the Photos sidebar.
Just today, iTunes has asked if I want to upgrade to iOS 9.3.4. I have not done that.
Also, my iPhone syncs with iTunes and is showing up in the iTunes sidebar.

Could you have hidden it. If you see the Heading “Import” in the side bar move your mouse roughly in the area of the arrow in the image below, it should then reveal the option to 'Show'.
I wish this were the problem, truly. But no Import heading in the sidebar.
I think there is something else missing. Aren't there supposed to be choices along the top above the photos?
idiot error. Resolved to try a different cable even though iPhone showed up in iTunes with the original.
