Q: Mac Mini still won't sleep after troubleshooting
For a couple of months now, it seems our Mac Mini (mid 2011) won't sleep or hibernate like it used to. We have it set to sleep (and sleep might not be the exact technical term) after 5 minutes of inactivity. Previously after 5 minutes of inactivity it would go back to the log-in screen and the user would have to log back in like they should. It was working perfectly and we also use this as a security feature, but now it seems not to do so, or do so sporadically. It also is preventing the screen saver from activating as well, however we understand that these issues are most likely related. We first thought it to be opens applications, so we made an effort to shut down everything except internet browsers (safari, chrome, firefox, etc.) and it still won't sleep. We've even left for the day, came back in the morning and it's still wide awake. This is an issue for several reasons, security being one, but mainly due to us using an expensive 48" flat screen plasma TV as a monitor and we don't want to burn it out prematurely and have to buy another.
These are the steps we've tried so far to resolve the issue:
1. We've check all settings under "Energy Saver" for computer and display sleep and they were set accordingly however we did make some changes in hopes of rectify the issue. It did not.
2. We logged into "Terminal" and ran the "pmset -g assertions" command and noticed "1s" after the following listings
a. PreventUserIdleDisplaySleep
b. ExternalMedia (which we have since ejected to see if it was the culprit)
c. InternalPreventDisplaySleep
d. PreventUserIdleSystemSleep
We have no clue why all these are "1s" instead of "0s" and cannot locate what is causing these exceptions to our sleep settings. If anyone can provide any advise to correct this ongoing troubling issue it would be greatly appreciated in advance.
Thanks,
Up All Night
