Q: Mac book pro 2008 boots as normal but recovery doesnt work.
Hello,
I recently got an old macbook 2008 from a friend. It is an Mac Book Pro 2008 15 inch with OS X El Capitan. He told me he did a reinstall. It is quite an old machine so i want to dualboot linux like my desktop with rEFIt. It tells me that i have to disable SIP. I found out the only way is in recovery, so i tried command option r, command r but it does is showing the apple logo and the bar gets stuck half way.diskutil list does show a partition named apple_boot recovery which is 650 MB.
Sorry for my lack of english and i hope you can help me.

It may not have the recovery partition on older Macs If you want to try to install it see this article:

If you have the OEM install discs that shipped with the Mac use those. If not contact Apple and they will ship them to you for a nominal fee.
