Can someone tell me what a lpss serial adapter is?
I got a new 2016 Macbook this week. In the Network preferences I have options for:
Is this normal? When I select the lpss, OS X shows me the config sheet for a modem.

I have this same question. I've simply deleted them with no consequence.
"LPSS" refers to Intel's Low Power Sub-System adapter.

Thank you. I haven't found anything useful while searching for lpss.
But I still don't get it why it's in the network preferences.
The whole menu is acting strange when messing with settings for the lpss.
Normally if you try to exit the menu before applying any changes made, you get the messagebox with Apply/Don't Apply/Cancel.
If I change the lpss setting and leave the menu without applying, I see the box+spinning wheel for half a second and the menu closes without saving.
Your screen shot shows the red dot next to this adapter.
Its status is "non-configured".
Why worry about it? It is not causing any harm to your machine at all.
I suggest leaving it alone. Clearly your system behaves worse when you attempt to manipulate this.

It just wasn't there on the old Macbook Pro and looks like a wrong initialized device.
So normally it's only WLAN and Bluetooth PAN on the Retina Macbooks?
In my Network Preferences, in addition to Wi-Fi, I have two LPSS Serial Adapters and two Thunderbolt Bridge (which both point to Thunderbolt 1, 1, 18 and 20). No Bluetooth PAN. Is this related to the 4 x USB-C ports?
I just saw this for the first time on my late 2016 MBP 15" Retina/TouchBar. Total guess after looking at sberman's link in this thread: Something to do with PowerNap?
Showed-up in my network pane right after Comcast technician left my house. They are there, but no longer configured.
