Q: Application Disabled with Cross marked circle around it

I had Parallels application on my Macbook Pro. Suddenly an update alrert came when I was trying to launch parallels. Accidentally I hit YES. It got updated and now I need to enter the activation key again, which I dont have access to.

So, I have tried to restore the app from the timemachine image(just app restoration but not the entire image restoration).

Now I can see the parallels application icon with a gray cicrle crossed on it. I cant launch the parallels. Also I cant get the activation key if I reinstall parallels.

How to repair the restored application?

Also another question is, my timemachine had shown few images of the backups but when I restarted my macbook, I have lost all of my previous timemachine instances.

Now I am in a position only to repair my parallels application, but cant be bale to do it.

Please help me to understand:

1) Why an application gets this crossed circle around it? and how to repair it without reinstalling it.

2) Why I have lost all my TimeMachine images upon restarting the Macbook?

Thanks in advance.

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), 2012 model with 16GB RAM and i7

My final solution worked for my ALL these issues:

Issue1: Parallels upgraded within the same version(11): I have ended up in purchasing another OEM parallels license and used it to reactivate it after the upgrade. (Just today I got an email from Parallels with the Parallels 12 activation key for free as a part of their Tech Guarantee scheme(they will give a free upgrade to the next version if a customer buys/activates the previous version very close to the next version release).

Issue2: While the new parallels license is active, you must have the parallels tools updated to the latest. I didnt update either parallels OR its tools and tried to launch the Windows 10 VM, it failed on me. After purchasing the new parallels activation key AND updating parallels and its tools, now the Windows 10 VM is being launched correctly.

    Learning points:

    1) You need to have the parallels activation key all the time as long as you are updating(not upgrading) at the same version that you had the key for.

    2) Always update parallels when there is an update from Apple on OSX(now MacOS). Dont update MacOS if you choose not to update Parallels.

    3) If you happen to buy&activate parallels very close to their new next release, they would kindly give a free upgrade to the new version(not update, its upgrade).

So, at this point, all of my problems are solved. But sill I want to port my Parallels VMs to VirtualBox real soon for the safe side. Also I will do a carbon copy of my present MacOS hard drive for the Mighty God's sake. Thank you all those who spin into my issue and shared your expertise around this issue.
