Q: Slow Time Machine Backup with OS X Server

So I just recently setup a Mac Mini 2010 running OS X Server 5. I have a variety of services running such as Cache, File Sharing, Software Update, and Time Machine. It is connected to an Airport Express through ethernet and has three USB drives connected to it as well. It has a Macbook Pro connected for network backup. When backing up the Macbook Pro to the server, it is very slow. It is averaging about 10 Gb per hour. What did I do wrong and how can it be fixed?

    Hi halodude124,

If you are using Virus Scanning or Malware apps on the MacBook Pro and/or the Mac Mini  , ensure that all Time Machine disks mounted on both machines are excluded from being scanned.   These apps make for a huge performance drain on Time Machine Backups.

Also, connecting via Ethernet cable for the initial backup will improve performance.  After the initial, a wireless connection should perform adequately.
