Q: All Facetime calls to ring on iMac when at home

Hi all,

I have looked over the web and on Apple support but while there are some answers/hints to solve the issue I am facing, none works for me.

Here is the problem I am facing: I own an iPhone, an iPad and an iMac.

On the iPad, Facetime is turned off so no problem.

On the iPhone, Facetime is on, using both my mobile number and my Apple ID email.

On the iMac, Facetime is on, using  my Apple ID email (note that the iMac is connected to Internet both by LAN and Wi-Fi.

Now, when I am not at home there is no problem: FaceTime calls are received on my iPhone through 4G or Wi-FI depending on what I have at my disposal.

But how do I manage to achieve the following ? When I am home and when the iPhone is on home Wi-FI, I would like all FaceTime calls (and potentially mobile calls) to ring exclusively on the iMac. Is this possible? If yes, how do I pull this one out in terms of settings on each devices?

Thank you!

    Hello elgipsy,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. I know having an issue with FaceTime is not what you expect.

If I understand correctly, you want FaceTime on your iMac to receive the notifications for new calls exclusively when you're on Wi-Fi with your iPhone, and have FaceTime route to your iPhone when you're away from your iMac. While it is not possible to do this specifically, you have many options with the Continuity features to use your Mac and iPhone together:

Use Continuity to connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac

FaceTime for Mac (El Capitan): Set preferences

    Cheers!

    Hello erin_b1,

Thank you very much for your answer. OK so what I would like to do is still not possible; maybe for macOS 10.13?

I did check the links about continuity thanks for those.

Since what I would like to do is not possible, is there a way to do the following:

When at home; if I get a FaceTime call on the iPhone, can I move this conversation to Facetime on iMac without interrupting the call?

    Thank you!

Great question! The good news is yes you can move the conversation between your Mac and iPhone while on the same Wi-Fi network! Here is how this feature works:

Transfer the call to your iPhone: When your Mac is near your iPhone, tap the Handoff icon that automatically appears in the bottom left of the lock screen of your iPhone, or click the Handoff icon that appears to the left of the Dock on your Mac.

Use your Mac to make and receive phone calls - Mac Help

    Have a great day!

    Hi jdo_apple,

For some reason I can't transfer FaceTime call because the FaceTime Handoff never shows up on the left of the Dock on my Mac. iMessage, Safari,Mail... works but for some reason not Facetime

I am currently on 10.12 public beta 6 but I had the same issue with 10.11

Is there anything else I can try?

    Thanks!

Thanks for that additional info, the Handoff feature does require certain system requirements and hardware. Please check out this article and make sure you meet the requirements:

System requirements for Continuity on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac

If your Mac, iPhone and iPad meet the requirements and you're still not getting the Handoff icon on your devices, you can figure out if unexpected behavior is related to user file or setting by trying to reproduce the issue from another user account. This process includes creating a new user account, logging in to it, and testing for the issue.

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

    Take care!
