Apple Watch not waking on wrist raise

Wrist raise wake screen was working then I charged it one night and when I woke up it wasn't working. Only had the watch since April. the screen won't shut off when lowered, until it times out, and won't come on when raised until screen tapped. Have toggled setting under Settings > General > Wake Screen several times, tried restarting it a couple of times, and even done a complete reset of the watch, no luck.

I have read most of the responses but one thing that I did not see anyone suggesting is the Theater mode. If that is turned on then the watch will not wake up when you raise the wrist. I believe this is by design. So wake up the watch by tapping on it and then slide the screen up which will show you power level and several other settings. The last setting in the right column at the bottom is an icon that looks like 2 clowns. This is the theater mode. If it is enabled then this icon will be lit up. Touch it toggle it off andd then you should have the watch working normally. Hope this helps.

I don’t think there is a problem here to be solved by Apple. I and many other users have never had Theater mode activate, but I have experienced a similar problem with Silent mode coming up occasionally. That’s a “problem” different enough to say it is not a bug, and my best guess is we are accidentally touching the screen, maybe without really looking what our fingers are doing. I won’t say it is User Error but not too far away and not something we can reasonably expect to change in software, unless you think it is a setting which should be protected by a passcode.

Hi

The following steps may help:

Check that Wrist Detection is turned on:

  • On your iPhone in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Wrist Detection - check that this is turned on.

Check also that you are wearing your watch sufficiently snugly. If worn too loosely, your watch may believe that it has been removed from your wrist.

Sensor performance can also be affected by temporary or permanent changes to your skin, such as by some wrist tattoos.

Otherwise, given the steps that you have already tried, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available) or make a Genius Bar reservation with a view to having your watch checked under warranty:
