You cannot "stack" adapters.
To use the VGA port on the display/projector, you need a VGA adapter directly from the computer.
if you have at least 10.11.4 installed, and have exactly ONE such adapter plugged in without a device connected to it externally, you are supposed to get an alert to Install the firmware update (which may already be on your computer).
Thanks for the prompt reply.
My laptop is running macOS Sierra 10.12.6.
I have the adapter with USB, RGB, USB-C ports. Model A1620 EMC 2878 (from the back). When I plug it in no response occurs.
When I plug in a projector to the RGB connection nothing happens. No video is projected. Display Preferences does not include an option to activate Air Play nor does it have the Arrangements tab available.
Hi there,
I am trying to connect my Macbook Pro OS High Sierra 10.13.1 2017 to my Epson projector EB-1775W I have a converter adapter for my Mac book pro... it has a USB HDMI and another usbc , I am connecting the cable into the HDMI converter adapter from my computer and the other end of the cable is a VGA which I am connecting into the projector. I cannot get it to work, I have gone into the system preferences and pressed display, the airplay drop down only option is OFF I cannot change it. I hold down the option button to get the display connect to apprear and I press it and it does nothing, computer and projector not connecting. Very frustrating I have to give presentation and have been spending all day trying to get it work, I could not do my first presentation and now I have another class on friday. Please can someone help!!!! I also tried the wireless lan connection from the projector is also would not work !!!

Where is the download that fixes the problem? I have the same issue.
Menu >About this Mac > (system Report) > graphics & displays
Is the adapter shown?
what version of firmware does it have?
Does it say a display is attached?
I have a 2017 MacBook Pro (OS Sierra 10.12.5) with 4 usb c ports.
I sourced an HDMI to usb 3.1 adapter and plugged in my HDMI projector - "No Signal" (Toshiba TDP-E20)
There is nothing in the MacBook Pro preferences to show screen arrangement. Have tried restarting with projector plugged in. Have power adapter connected.
Still "No Signal"
Can someone please advise me. Thank you.
Can you tell me what the spec of an adapter needs to be to work with the Macbook Pro and an HDMI projector - maybe HDMI 2 is not backwards compatible. I think I can test the adapter with an HDMI monitor, will get back on this.
Any help much appreciated
Have a good weekend and Best Regards
when I asked what adapter, exactly, I hoped you would reply to a link with the tech specs or an unambiguous name that could be used to find the tech specs.
I am also wary about your calling this a USB-3.1 adapter rather than a USB-C adapter because I fear you may be trying to "stack" adapters, which does not usually work for Display Adapters.
Hello
Thank you for your reply
As described I am only using one adapter, if that is what you mean by stacking
The only information I have on the adapter is HDMI 2.0 to USB 3.1 - MHL2.0 1080p@60mhz
The print for the last bit is quite small so I was confusing MHL with HDMI
Are you able to help with this information?
I have now purchased an apple adaptor (USB-C Digital AV Multipart Adapter) but still no joy.
This projector is definitely working.
I would be very glad if anyone can help or suggest what the problem is.
so you are connecting, with ONE adapter, directly to an HDMI input on the projector?
What does it say at:
menu > about this Mac > (system Report) > graphics and displays ...
... is the adapter listed there?
... is the projector listed there?
Hi Grant
Thank you for your reply. Yes I did make that clear previously that I was not 'stacking'.
I just now received and downloaded a mac update specifically for the usb c multiport adapter and the projector worked as soon as I restarted. The hdmi projector is now recognised as a second display - I am very glad that this issue is now fixed.
However it is frustrating that the port not working was a mac software issue.
Best regards
Get an appropriate adopter to connect your Mac's video out port to an input port on the projector.
If yo Mac has a Thunderbolt port that accepts a mini displayport for video output
