Q: iPhone 5 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi problem

Good afternoon,

I have a iPhone 5 64GB which I wanted to give to my girlfriend.

Sadly enough I stumbled upon a Wi-Fi problem which only occurs when it's connected to the 2.4Ghz frequency.

The problems are ; low speed (3mb on a 3m range), keeps asking for a password, not connecting at all.

The router that I'm using is a Apple Airport Extreme 4th generation on firmware 7.6.7

I tried different routers / locations and rebooted / reseted / reinstalled the iPhone 5 several times, also tried to change the dns to Open or Google. Plus I installed a new Wi-Fi antenna in an attempt to fix the problem.

On the 5Ghz frequency it's just almost fast as my iPhone 6S plus.

Thanks for your help.

Best regards,
Danny

Did you compare the settings of the Air Port Extreme station to the ones mentioned in this article?

If you have opened the phone to service it, Apple will not test the device anymore for you and in case the Wi-Fi settings on the router are not the cause for your problem, you will have to find a 3rd party repair shop that can check  the Wi-Fi chip on your phone.

I did plus those settings are pretty default anyway.

The iPhone 5 is not the only device on my network but it's the only that's having trouble with the 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi frequency.

Sometimes the speed gets above 30Mbps but most of the time it's now even under 2Mbps.

So it's possible that the chip is defective but the 5Ghz part is still functioning?

If the iPhone is the only one having problems, it is very likely that the Wi-Fi chip ist not working correctly.

But this can definitely only be answered by testing the phone in a professional environment.
