Q: Specialties

For some reason my specialties are listed as Desktop and iLife.  I do not have a desktop computer. I have a MacBook Pro, an Airport Time Capsule, an iPhone 5c, an Apple TV, and an iPad, and a USB SuperDrive. I know quite a bit about these devices but I know nothing about iLife.  I do not understand the process of changing my specialties. Can somebody help me change my specialties?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Specialties are a relatively new addition to ASC. It appears that ANY participation in a particular subject area triggers the award of a Specialty Badge - it is supposed to indicate "interest" at the beginning. The one that appears next to one's avatar is supposed to be the one with the most "advancement" (the little tick lines below the actual badge)

I got a badge for ApplePay and it somehow eclipsed all other Specialties for a very long time - until I made a point to TRY to advance in one in which I actually had "expertise". I do not use ApplePay. I do not have an iPhone. I do not have any idea how it got there!

So if my experience is any indicator, you must pick another Specialty and attend to the advancement tasks so that it will "push" Desktops out of "the lead"

Thank you.  I'm spending a lot of time navigating Support Communities and working up the nerve to try to help someone. I assume that's what you mean by picking another specialty.

See Product Specialities. Respond in area where you think you know your stuff. Weirdly asking a question in that area is one of the requirements for level 1. You also need to bookmark a question and mark one as I have this question too. As you complete the tasks required for one level you get to see what they are for the next.

When I go to Product Specialties nothing is active.  For example, I click on iPhone but nothing happens.  I have been told to cpmplete the tasks shown in the callout below but can't figure out how.  Nothing happens when I click on things.  Feeling frustrated!

ChitlinsCC = ignorant (mostly) about the details of Specialties

tt2 = vewy vewy smawt about all things ASC deepest darkest secrets = his steps are pulled from the popup panels illustrated in his linked article. Obscure until you know where to look

Those are preview images showing the different specialties that are available. See this Product Site Map for links to the individual communities which fall within each area. See my older Site map of Communities and Categories for ready-made bookmarks that might make it easier for you to avoid reading the same threads twice.

Don't let any temporary feeling of frustration turn into despondency.   Some of the tasks within the specialities rely on the contributions of others, and sometimes the 'marking' is very delayed.

And in much the same way as achieving points progression, patience is the key.   Getting to level 2 is the big step upwards; it tends to get easier from there.

Thanks for your support.  For some reason I'm unable to mark your reply as helpful.

You can award up to two helpfuls and one solved. My guess is that you initially marked CCC's first reply as helpful and then upgraded it to solved.

    Hello again niefeaux,

Thanks for the mention.   It looks like you have already expended your total 'awards' though how you achieved two solved for one person I don't know.     But if you are encouraged, then that is my reward.

    Good luck.

You're always better starting your own thread rather then adding to a "solved" thread.

I asked the host to move your post and give it it's own title. If they don't you should start a new thread in the proper Forum.

Thank you hosts for your fast action. Where did Ckaung go ?
