Q: iPhoto won't update

I got an error message before updating when I click on iPhoto, so I updated and now the error message says: "The version of iPhoto installed on this Mac is not compatible with OS X Yosemite. Download the latest version for free from the Mac App Store." So I updated my computer to Yosemite. No change, iPhoto still wouldn't open. I then downloaded the upgrade to iPhoto 9.4.3 and when I went to launch that, I get this error message: Alert: iPhoto 9.1 or later is required to install this update. When I click on the app store button with the first error to go to the app store to download the latest version it says: "The item you've requested is not currently available in the U.S. store." so I have no clue what to do to get iPhoto to work but I have a ton of photos and no way to get them on my computer. I don't even know how to access them on the cloud help!

MacBook Pro, iOS 9.3.3

What version of iPhoto do you have now? iPhoto v9.6. is required for Yosemite. To download that you need a version of iPhoto v9 that is already associated with an App Store account. If you don't have that then you need to use the new Photos.app that comes with Yosemite, and which will work with your iPhoto Library.

I can't even see which version of iPhoto and I cannot download the new iphoto- well I did download it but it says I can't update it. I don't know where to find where I can download the complete new iPhoto instead of just the update? ohhhh so if I can't get iPhoto to work, I can just use the photos app? That has no problems so I can just remove the iPhoto tab from my thingy at the bottom of the screen?

Use Photos and drag iPhoto out of the Dock.

If you installed iPhoto from an iLife DVD, or got it with a computer that shipped with 10.6.8 or earlier, you normally won't be able to update it to a version compatible with Yosemite or newer.

Ohhhh that makes sense, my computer is pretty old... In the market to get the new macbook air soon! Just have to keep this one until I can finish my doctoral dissertation (the computer is the reward ). I will use photos from now on and moved the iphoto out of the dock. Thanks so much for your help and quick responses!!
