Why is Chase Bank asking for an update of Safari. In order to view my account ?

What version of OS X and Safari do you have installed? Which Mac?
I have this problem, too. Running Mountain Lion (10.8.5) and Safari 6.2.8.

Most likely, their website is performing a "browser check" that revealed your version of Safari is outdated. That practice may be arbitrary or unjustified, and its benefit to overall banking security is debatable. However, if you want to continue to use Chase's online banking website you may need to upgrade OS X to enjoy the benefits of a currently supported version of Safari.
Please read Learn how to upgrade to the latest version of OS X, which will include the latest version of Safari.
Thank you. As I suspected. Too bad, because then I would lose Aperture!
Not if you upgrade Aperture to 3.6. That version still works will El Capitan.
Why would you lose Aperture?
