Unable to download iOS 9.3.4 via iTunes

I'm new to this forum, so hello to everyone.

I've been trying to download the latest version of iOS (9.3.4) for my iPad Air 2 via iTunes without success, with each attempt ending with "the software for the iPad was corrupted during download". Where the download can be seen in the top right of iTunes (by clicking downloads), the icon is replaced with an orange exclamation mark. When clicked, the unsuccessful download has an error code 1403 - I've tried to research what this refers to, but no luck.

I've downloaded iOS 9.3.4 for my iPhone 6S 64Gb and that worked perfectly. as did downloading iOS 9.3.4 directly to my iPad i.e. without connecting to iTunes. I want to do a reinstall of my iPad but iTunes will not allow the download to install, even though it does appear to download the entire file.

I've run a diagnostic in iTunes and there are no issues, I've also tried to repair iTunes via programmes in control panel (Windows 10), still no luck. I even disabled my firewall and anti virus and that didn't help either.

Has anyone had a similar issue with this release or previous ones, or any ideas what the problem could be?

P.S. none of my devices are jail broken, or ever have been.

Many thanks,

Mark

You are not alone, I am also having the same problem.

I tried another computer, on different network. nothing works, so i decided to check the ipsw sha1

iPad5,3_9.3.4_13G35_Restore SHA1 : 18861E865AF83AE5C446F30C6898F27A8055C7D0

the problem is the ipsw is supposed to have SHA1 : 75da292347d300277c5945d5974fc18b22d20d75

this is ridiculous, apple please fix the firmware on your servers.

.

To fix your ipad download ios 9.3.3 ipsw while it still signed.

Medipadx, you know your stuff - I never would have realised that.

Out of interest how did you now the ipsw file name was incorrect? In light of what you've found, there's nothing we can do apart from waiting until Apple uploads the correct firmware.

Thanks for replying, I really appreciate it - I can breathe a sigh of relief as I thought the problem was my end.

In case Apple is still signing 9.3.3:

Download iOS 9.3.3 for your device directly (for example https://ipsw.me/ or http://www.redmondpie.com/download-ios-9.3.3-ipsw-for-iphone-and-ipad-final-vers ion/ )

Hold down shift-button while clicking Restore in iTunes. Select the IPSW-file you have downloaded.

See here for example for a complete guide: http://www.guidingtech.com/54545/restore-iphone-using-ipsw-file-itunes/

thanks for responding to this! looks like a simple fix!

however when i reconnect Itunes, as the Ipad is in recovery mode, "shift + restore" doesn't bring up the option to select a pre-downloaded file....

regardless of what I push, "restore and update" comes back again and it wants to download the latest version (9.3.4)

Any more help would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance!

Hi

What file are you downloading? I went for the https://ipsw.me/ link and chose iPad Air 2, then the ios9.3.3 (13G34) - 1.84GiB it then shows the file " iPad5,3_9.3.3_13G34_Restore.ipsw ". Downloaded that and then went through the iPad connection of holding the Home buttondown whilst inserting the USB lead, and keeping it held until the iTunes Logo with the lead came on the iPad.

When you see the Restore button in iTunes, shift & click the Restore Button. It automatically shows the folder (I use windows so just went through my folders until I saw the file). Clicked on it and everything went through perfectly.

Are you trying to download the 9.3.4? As that was advised against. When the iPad was back up and running, I was asked in iTunes to update to 9.3.4 but cancelled that and updated to 9.3.4 on the iPad, and no problems.

Hope this helps as this issue does your head in. Good Luck.

That is the version that I downloaded and tried to install. I have downloaded again this morning and will try again one more time before heading to the Genius Bar. The only trick I think I have missed in the above is the "holding the Home button down whilst inserting the USB lead" but the Recovery mode always pops up with I insert the lead...

It did allow me to select the file to install... but came up with the error as mentioned.

Will try again tonight - you're right, it does your head in!

Thanks again for your helpful advice! 🙂

Have you checked Apples support documents for error 56? (See here: Get help with iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support ).

I don't know for sure (and in fact these errors and solutions are often misleading), but if the error persists after you have taken the steps suggested there, there might be a hardware problem instead of a problem with 9.3.4?!
