Q: How do I keep my autistic son from deleting music on the iPod?9.3.3

MY son is autistic and often hits the delete button after listening to songs. How can I prevent him from doing this? Especially from deleting completely from My Music

iPod touch (4th generation), iOS 9.3.3

    Greetings Ckelley455,

Thanks for your post and welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I see that sometimes your son accidentally deletes your music after listening to a song. I know how important it is to listen to music and keep it from being accidentally deleted. I’ll be happy to help.

One of the things that should help would be to use the feature called Guided Access. This built in feature allows you to limit what can be done on the iPod. For example you can keep your son from switching to other applications and can limit what parts of the screen works or even disable the screen from working all together to keep accidental touches from deleting music.

You can use this article to learn all about this feature and how to use it:

Use Guided Access with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

    Have a wonderful day!

    Good advice.

If you sync to another computer, like an iMac or MacBook, you can restore the deleted selections easily.

Then, use Guided Access to make sure your content doesn't get deleted in the first place.

Thank you. I'm not sure this will be an option, though. It sounds like guided access would restrict him to one app, which I don't want to do - he has several games, a communication app , etc to use, and it would be quite cumbersome to try to constantly switch in and out of guided access between. And I don't really want to restrict his use of the screen for the same reason. It sounds like guided access is more intended for someone trying to keep from getting distracted when they need to concentrate on a task.

I find it frustrating that there is a setting for restricting the ability to delete apps, but not one for restricting deleting music!

Another question - when you hit delete on a song, several options appear. One is delete from device - self explanatory. But one is delete from My Music. If he hits this, does it delete completely from my purchased music, or just from the cloud? In other words, do I still own it, and can it be retrieved somehow?

Thanks so much for your help!
