    Hello KHvG,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. I know having an issue with the iBooks app is not what you expect. If I understand correctly, you are able to tap the cloud icon next to Books not currently on your device to download them, but you're not able to open them and get an error you don’t have enough storage. Here is what I suggest to resolve this issue:

    1. First, open up multitasking on your device and force the Settings and iBooks app to close.

Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

    2. Next, restart your device as the shut down and start up process is important to keep the iOS software running properly. Then test your iBooks issue again:

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

    3. If you are having this issue when trying to download from iCloud in the My Books section of the iBooks app, try going to the Purchased area and start the download process there.

    Download your past purchases

    4. If you're still getting messages about not enough space, check your on device storage, which is different than available iCloud storage. Here is more info on how storage works:

Check your storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

    Cheers!
