Q: why is iTunes is splitting the same artists and albums?

I recently added some new albums and discographies to my iTunes library. Everything was going fine... except iTunes is not properly recognizing and organizing some artists and albums. For instance, it split the same Avantasia album in two, while also creating two "Avantasia" artists.Screen Shot 2016-08-07 at 2.28.10 PM.png

Also, despite having the same album and album artist names on it, the songs from Guitar Hero 3 were divided into 5 different artists...

Why is this happening? What can I do to fix this?

Thanks in advance!

    Hello barbararocha.

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. I see from your post that some of your recently added songs and artists' info isn't correct. I'm happy to provide you with some direction to resolve this.

You can edit the info for a a single song, a full album, or multiple songs, albums, or artists by selecting them and then choosing File > Get Info.

This will allow you to have a single Avantasia artist and to have your iTunes library sorted the way you prefer.  Please see this article for more information about organizing your iTunes Library:

If you see unexpected groups of songs when you browse an album

    Have a great day.

Hello Johan, thanks for you answer! But I already tried changing manually the information via "get info"... And it didn't help. That's why I'm here.

Thanks for letting us know barbararocha.

In the case of Avantasia, be sure to check that the Artist and the Album Artist sections have the same name, in the Get Info window. Also, that there are no spaces at the end of the Artist and Album Artist sections' names, while you edit all Avantasia songs.

I recommend to view your iTunes Library as Songs, instead of Artists. As you can select multiple songs, from multiple artists in this view.

In the case of the Guitar Hero III soundtrack, perform the same steps as above. Also, in the Get Info window, there is a checkbox named "Album is a compilation of songs by various artists" that could help.

    Cheers.
