So, these keep showing up & I know it's something I accidentally toggled but I can't figure out what. They are the ones in the top right corner- they look me an ^ with a two symbols next to it. Sometimes its just an up arrow?

they are the symbols for the control, command and option keys, these are not used in iOS just the mac. what app are you in? The screen shot seems to be from an iPad
Open the Accessibility pane of System Preferences, click on Keyboard, and turn off Sticky Keys.

sorry, I thought I posted in the iPad community & yes it's on my iPad, & it doesn't matter what I'm in.
do you use a physical keyboard?
As per Niels answer it still may be sticky keys System > General > Accessibly > Keyboard > Sticky Keys on/off
