Surge Protectors with USB ports

I have an 12.9 iPad Pro. I've noticed an increase of surge protector power strips with USB connections available in stores. Is it safe to charge my iPad Pro by connecting the supplied charging cable directly into one of the USB connectors on the surge protector power strip?

It's hard to say if it's definitely safe simply because no one knows the brand you're talking about. If it's a main stream brand then it should be fine. I've used a Targus USB charger for my iPod and iPad mini for over a year.

Are you talking about some cheap no-name knock off from Amazon? I personally won't use it.

As to charging the pro efficiently or not, read the specs on the USB port and see how much power it puts out. It may put out enough to keep your iPad happy, and it may not.

I'd suggest that you read the specs and reviews for the device and make the decision that you feel best about. I have no qualms using the targus charger that I have, but I also have different devices than you do.

I have not purchased anything yet. I was out at a store and noticed a display of surge protectors with USB ports, but I did not know if they were safe. (The reason for posting my question.)

Thank you for the helpful information you provided. What should I be looking for when reading the specs on a device? Ideally, how much power would I need to charge my iPad Pro? I'll be the first to admit, I lack the knowledge and understanding of charging and electricity. I did research and found that the iPad Pro comes with 38.5‐watt‐hour rechargeable lithium‐polymer battery, and a 12W USB power adapter.
