Q: DVD Ripping Software Recommendation

Hello, can anyone recommend a good DVD Ripping software to create high quality files for editing? I can pay for the software if it's not free-ware.

Thank you!

Final Cut Pro 7, Mac OS X (10.7.5), Imac

This is an iffy topic on the support communities. Ripping software is only necessary for DVDs with copy protection and providing advice about getting around copy protection is prohibited on the forums because it is assisting with an illegal activity and will likely get this topic removed completely.

For non copy protected home DVDs simply drag the files to your computer.

Dragging a VIDEO_TS folder to your Desktop isn't going to help.  You need to convert (rip) those files to a usable format.  MPEGStreamclip does the job.  And it won't work with DRM protected discs.

If it's from a non protected DVD (personal video, etc.), you don't need to do anything to a VIDEO_TS folder other than use software than can properly burn a new disk from it. Toast Titanium can do that.

I Think the OP wants to edit the video. Not sure if DVD delivery is the intent.

Thanks for your reply, the reasons is I have a video client that is doing a performance locally and needs video ripped from some DVDs of music videos.

Oh! Yes. Quite correct. Missed the "edit" part in the inital post. Yes, then you need to get it back into an editable format.

You could use MPEG Streamclip to rip the DVDs, as Ben suggested, but you would also need the MPEG-2 Playback Component installed, and Apple no longer offers that plug-in for download. If you do not have the plug-in already installed, I suggest you use Handbrake – a free download.

    Good luck.
