Wacom Tablet doesn't show in system preferences

Hey there,

I might be just really dumb but i can't seem to find the tablet properties. It's not in system preferences and search doesn't find it either. I'm using El Capitan as software and the tablet works just fine, but i would like to change something in the preferences. Could anybody help please?

thank you

Hello,

I finally figured out how to fix the mysterious invisible Wacom Preference pane!

I´ve tried this on 3 Macs, and it worked flawless every time (Macbook Pro w. El Capitan, Macbook Pro with Sierra, and Mac Mini with Sierra). Here´s what I did:

  • Download this driver from http://www.wacom.com/en-de/support/product-support/drivers, install it and reboot.
  • Open a Finder window, click your user home folder from the sidebar (
    /Users/YOURUSERNAME/
    ), press ⇧ + ⌘ + G, and type (or paste):
    Library/Preferences
  • The reason why I described the previous step so detailed, is that the user library folder is hidden by default, and to avoid any misunderstandings. You can of course use your preferred method to browse to this folder.
  • In the Preferences folder, find the file called "com.apple.systempreferences.plist", and open it with a plist editor (for instance this free utility).
  • There´s a line of text that says "HiddenPreferencePanes" (for me, this was kind of like finding The Holy Grail, after 8 hours of troubleshooting). Expand it (if you´re using Plist Edit Pro or XCode, click the small triangle to the left, you will see that it behaves kind of similar to opening a folder in Finder).
  • Inside the mentioned HiddenPreferencePanes array element, you will now (hopefully) see a new line of text with the Wacom Tablet entry. Select it, and delete it by pressing the backspace key, or from the menu Edit/Delete. Save the file (⌘ + S) and you´re done.
  • The Wacom preference pane should now be visible and back in action, from System Preferences.

Voilá, you´re welcome!

The following part is not important regarding the prefpane, but it is preventing the prefpane from being hidden later, when upgrading or repairing OS X:

  • Open System Preferences/Security & Privacy
    • Click Accessibility
    • Click the + sign, and add "Wacom Tablet Utility" from your Applications/Wacom Tablet Folder
  • Alternatively, while you´re at it - open Wacom Tablet Utility and Restore any Wacom preferences

Best regards,

Andreas

thanks for the help, though it didn't solve the problem, because I can't even locate the wacom tablet to uninstall. it's not in the application folder, neither in system preferences. strange.. when I bought my new macbook pro (4 month ago), i just imported everything from the old one, so maybe that could be the cause of the problem.
