Q: Photos in Finder

I cannot find my photo files in Finder.  For example, I want to attach a photo in an email.  I click the paperclip icon to attach a file and it opens Finder.  When I choose the Pictures folder, it shows folders where photos might exist but there are no photos files (jpg, png, etc) that come up.  All I can select is a photo folder icon.  To put a photo in an email, I have to open Photo app and drag and drop a photo onto the email.  Are my photos actually stored on my hard drive or just someplace magical like iCloud?Screen Shot 2016-08-08 at 12.45.55 PM.png

Have you tried exporting the photos from the database they are stored in?

Photos is a SQLite database management program and you never use the finder to access the database - you use the Photos program or the media browser (in the attach window you posted scroll on down to media ==> photos ==> Photos and you will see your Photos photos with album, moments etc - attach form there

That was really simple.  Thanks.  I never knew there were other options further down on the media window.  It always opened in the size and format that I screen copied to my request.  Thanks again for the help.

This answer may be clear to you but has no context for me.  In other words: whaaaat?  Don't need a response.  Another reply was most helpful and resolved my issue.

Two ways to use photos in Photos - the media browser as I described and exporting as Allen described - to export you select the photos you want to use in Photos and use the export command (file menu ==> export) to export to a finder folder and then you use from there - for what you are doing the media browser is probably best but in many cases the best (or even ony way) is to export the photos)

So my original question still stands: photos in Finder.  You gave me a great answer about attaching media but I did not notice there is a different window that opens in Finder.  I attached another screen clip from Finder this time.  In this window I cannot locate photo or picture files.  Is your export suggestion the way I have to locate photos to open in Finder?  Screen Shot 2016-08-09 at 9.45.30 AM.png

Yes to access photos in the finder rather than the media browser you must export them

export to a finder folder and then you use from there
