El Captain

I've heard bad and good things about the latest OS, El Captain. Not sure if I want to take a chance or not from what I've heard on my research, so I'm asking. And since I'm using MacX DVD ripper, I want to make sure I won't have issues. When we lost iPhotos (I was told I could transfer my pictures, but nope, all the folders I have no longer have access too). Thanks for all your help, have a great. I'm sure I'll have more questions.

I'm not clear on what your question is

El Captain is clean and solid and in use by many, many millions of users daily - and since you do not choose to disclose what software you have (I doubt that it is OS X 10.7.5 as you state) about all that can be said is that you should never upgrade without a good backup in case something goes wrong or you do not like the upgrade, no one but you can can make your decisions for you and upgrading from iPhoto to Photos does not lose folder or albums - the entire iPhoto structure is carried forward - How Photos handles content and metadata from iPhoto and Aperture - Apple Support

Photos is a new and different program which requires learning and new workflows but in pretty much every way is better than iPhoto

To build on Larry's good advice...

A good way to "test drive" El Capitan is to install it another disk and see if it works for you.

Generally speaking, you should always upgrade to the latest possible system that you meet the specs for, as long as you have no “must have” apps that do not meet the specs. Upgrades and updates contain important security improvements plus additional features.

Before upgrading:

1. Backup. Anything can happen at any time,, so you should always keep a good backup. Make a bootable clone SuperDuper! or CarbonCopy Cloner or use TimeMachine.

2. If you have issues on your present system don't compound them by installing over them. Solve them first then upgrade.

3 Check HDD for free space. At least 8.8GB of available storage. Preferably much more.

4. Check your applications for compatibility here…http://roaringapps.com/apps.

5. Disconnect all peripherals, including USB hubs.

6. After downloading the installer, it will be in /Applications folder. Duplicate it and then drag the copy it to another locations like Downloads, if you want to save the installer.

7. Be patient, the download takes a long time and the install may look like it has died at times. Ignore it.

when I rip a movie it'll go into my Mac Video but wont go to Itunes like before

What do you mean by Mac Video? What app is that? Never heard of it.

What are you ripping, video DVDs? Home produced or commercial?

What are you using to rip? Can you rip to a folder on the Desktop and then import into iTunes?

A more detail will go a long way in helping us help you.
