So theres no point in EZ drummer?

I downloaded the PRODUCER KITS, totally unbelievable, having DRUMMER in Logic is just mind-blowing! I bought EZ Drummer before I purchased Logic, but whats the point in having it!?

I am really astounded at the drummer and producer kits in Logic, it makes songwriting quicker, easier and so much more enjoyable!

Just thought I would post this!

I'm about to publish an intro tutorial for the Smart Drummer this week! And yes, it CAN do swings, jazz, if you know the controls.

I'll use Smart Drummer to lay out my basic drums. Then convert any regions I need to tweak to MIDI regions, adjust individual hits. Then, sometimes, I may switch the instrument on that track to Superior Drummer, or Shreddage Drummer, to get that specific drum sound I'm looking for.

But 90% of the time, I can get what I need out of the Smart Drummer. It isn't as limited as many folks think, once you spend the time to learn it.

One tool does not negate another tool, you let the music call for what to use, rather than building the music around the software. You will notice the creative people out the using -anything- new or old to get the sound they're looking for, that's one of the qualities that gives their music a unique perspective.

An artist never questions their tools.

Yes it'll swing, but the problem is with the 'Follow' feature - for rock etc 'Follow' aligns the BD and SD to another track to create a tight groove. Great!.

But in Jazz it's the Cymbals and Hi hat that are used to set the groove (mainly) with the BD and SD used for expressive punctuations. So the end result in Drummer just doesn't sound right. I hope that Apple can eventually come up with a version of Drummer that will preferentially align the Cymbals and Hi hat to a rhythmic source on another track. But overall Drummer is great - I use it in combination n with BFD3.

same as you; bought ez drummer just before the update with Drummer.

If you have EZ2 and a lot of midi grooves, you can generate your song in EZ, convert to midi and use that in Drummer. The great advantage over EZ is the fact that you can create your own buses for parallel compression, reverb send etc - it is really powerful and versatile.

I often find myself using a combination of the two.

Well, you can't convert a MIDI region to a Drummer region, you'll loose your work, as the virtual drummer will re-write it all with their playing. So not sure how you're converting an EZ Drummer region to a virtual drummer region.

You can create your own buses and apply any patch you want to a virtual drummer track, just like with EZ.
