ios 9.3.4 battery issues

I have the same (maybe same) issue with my iPhone 6s since updating to iOS 9.3.3. Yesterday I updated to iOS 9.3.4 hoping to resolve the issue, but still the same.

The battery drain issue started after updating to iOS 9.3.3 without any warning.

About 2 days ago charging the battery to 100% completed before I went to bed. So I removed it from the charger and went to bed. In the morning I recognized the battery capacity was down to 48% although I was not using the iPhone (as I was sleeping). I tried to identify the application which was using the battery and finally ended up closing all applications.

Currently most battery is used by "system settings".

What I did already:

1. I did a soft reset and serveral power off / power on cycles - issue still same
2. I closed all apps - issue still same
3. I disabled GPS (location services - don't know how the German "Ortungsdienste" is translated) for all apps except the iOS services - issue still same
4. I disabled nearly all background activities - issue still same

My battery is draining / discharging very quickly. I can see the percentage value decreasing within "seconds". My iPhone is always warm, never cooling really down. I have to leave it connected to a charger all time.

I tried to contact Apple support but could not manage to talk to one of their service representatives so far.

Don't know what else I can do to identify what's using the battery / what's wrong.

Only thing I recognized is that the symbol for location service (GPS) in use is always on.

Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

Be sure to make backup of the content of your device before restoring it:

Same problem here. Last option would be to restore but I'm reluctant to follow that way. 😟

Hi. I have an iPhone 5C and also running on iOS 9.3.4. My issue on the OS update is also about the battery life of the device. I noticed today that my iPhone’s battery is draining at a rapid rate. I know that using some apps can consume a considerable amount of energy, but the rate of battery drain is way too fast compared to before. Also, even just on standby (without any apps running) there’s an observable amount of energy consumed. It is as if every 30 minutes the device uses up 2%-3% of power (yes, even on stand-by).

Like everyone else my iPhone 5S battery drain started when I installed 9.3.3. Did the usual reset, hard reset, reset all settings - nothing's changed. When ios 9.3.4 came out I installed it immediately - no change. Battery charged 100% overnight, unplug it from wall, without using it as I was asleep. Battery drains 50-60% overnight doing nothing! Location services off, notifications off, deleted Facebook, Wifi off, airplane mode - still drains! Next thing I am going to try is to erase everything and set as new device.... don't really want to do this but unless someone else have any suggestions. VERY ANNOYING!

I installed 2 apps to monitor system resources and understand which processes / apps are using up my battery.

Surprisingly the CPU is mostly idle and nearly no system time is used. I did not find an app which allows me to monitor system kernel threads, but I assume that the battery is not used up by kernel resources as the monitoring apps show that no system time is used (processor time used by system).

That matches what I see in battery usage (system settings). The battery usage statistics list applications not running and is not changing.

Nevertheless, my battery is still draining very quickly.

I compared the power my battery is delivering with the iPhone 6s of a colleague.

We both had no apps running. I had Bluetooth and WLAN turned off whereas my colleague had both turned on.

Nevertheless, my battery was delivering 2 times the power than the iPhone of my colleague.

Decreasing display brightness to "zero" does not help to reduce power consumption.

Any idea how I can find out which "part" of the iPhone is using all that battery power if no app is running?

I know exactly what you mean I have done everything I've disabled my notifications I've turned push too often my mail settings I disabled the background app refresh setting Ivan turned off Bluetooth on my phone nothing has been solved whoever is giving us this advice it's not helping in Apple is not helping at all either I don't think

Same issue for me. It all started with 9.3.3. After completing a full settings + content restore, I decided to visit the Genius Bar because the problem persisted. Battery drains about 10% every 20 minutes. Genius bar attributed it to a hardware issue, saying that my battery was failing even though it is less than a year old (iPhone 6s). Clearly he was wrong. This new phone is experiencing the same problem - so it seems to be tied to the update. I was considering backing my phone up to an older back-up, say a month back, but I'm hesitant because it's still on the 9.3.4 update and if it's tied to the software version, it will likely persist. Any help would be greatly appreciated - I have another appointment tomorrow with the Genius Bar but I'd like to avoid the trip to Grand Central!

many thanks for letting us know what you already tried and especially that replacing the phone did not resolve the issue. That saved me a lot of work / time as Apple advised me to test the same. Visiting the Genius Bar would be a mess for me as I'm going by bicycle & train and there's no Genius Bar close-by.

I am having the same issue with my 5c, I had it charged to 100% before update, completed it overnight, I woke up to a 1% charge. I got it to flicker on and off of charge to get to 4% this morning. Now it will not charge. No little lint issues, not a bad cord... what gives? Oh and the GPS icon was on but I closed all my apps and it went away... none of the apps open use GPS...😕... but still no luck with charge.

I did this, THANK YOU! After it took a minute to do its thing... it started charging, turned on and it took a minute for my screen to work but it is charging now at least. I hope it maintains!
