Q: iMac 21,5: Internal drive not useable

Hi there,

I have a strange problem with an iMac 2010:

After the original hard disc (Western Digital , 500 GB, Blue Caviar) was broken, I try to replace it with an 1 TB Black Caviar; it has an Apple Logo on it. (First question: Is this already an mistake? Is there a firme on the disk that makes the change not possible?)

After putting it in the iMac, it did not work. When starting from a disk, I can see the disk as "Media", but with a size of 0, and not partition on it.

The disc tool did not work, all option were greyed out. So I tried to format the disc with an external drive, and: Voila, there was a complete Mac OS 10.7 on the disc.

How can I check what is wrong with eihter the iMac oder the disc? It seems to be an problem that occurs before, but there is no soluttion documented for it...

Thanks in advance,

Michael
