Frequently, when I put my iphone in the silence mode, I will forget and miss calls and other messages.
It would be very convenient to have the feature of putting the lphone in the silence mode for a specific
period of time.....say 30 minutes, 2 hours, indefinitely.

How would a physical switch be moved by software?
Look into Do not Disturb mode instead of the silence switch. DND can be set for a specific time of day, and duration.
