People can't read my Pages docs and they lack fonts

People with Windows can't read my Pages Documents, so I want to get Microsoft Office for Macs. (Sorry!) Should I get 2013 or 2016?

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

fonts are not transmitted with the document.

fonts can also be part of a software license with an OS, another product or purchased though a foundry.

fonts on "free" websites may not only have restrictions on use but they may sometimes illegally host commercial fonts.

if you need to show someone a "font" that they may not have use a screen shot and embed the image in the document. Otherwise there is a possibility you could be providing them with illegal software.

Copying a commercial, OS provided or Product provided font is in some cases software piracy, and a company audit may expose it and be subject to penalties from the auditor or corporation.

As JimmyCMPIT said the fonts are not sent embedded within the document, so even through you would now be sending files from Office 2016, if you use fonts your recipients do not have they will not show for them and just get changed to the default.

I have never used Office at work and have always found the Pages/OpenOffice/LibreOffice have always worked fine for us when we export back out to word – but I suppose it depends on the complexity of the document.
