Q: router - airport express question

I recently started viewing television on my Macbook through my cable carrier. The show/broadcast keeps buffering on my Macbook. Could it be the router? How many years do the Apple routers last? I've had my Macbook and airport router for 7 years and just added 4 gb of memory. Do you think the router is the reason it keeps buffering? Thanks.

MacBook (13-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
