Q: Problems using Gmail in Mail in OS X EL CAPITAN

Hi. Updated from the mountain Lion to el capitan a few weeks ago for several reasons. One of the reasons was that I had begun to have problems with the use of e-mail program included in the operating system. This issue I hoped and thought I would be fixed by the upgrade of the operating system. Something that unfortunately did not fix it. Can someone help me?

A day before the summer, I couldn't download and read emails with the following e-mail program in the operating system. I also could not send emails. Please see the attachments in this post for the screenshot. I have two gmail accounts that I use for personal email that I want to be able to read and send emails with.

Unfortunately I can't get the program "Mail" to be English, therefore have translated the text from Norwegian to English.

Connection status: Mail could connect to the internet

Details

Could not log on to this IMAP e-mail account. Make sure that the user name and password are correct.

By pressing the signs/warning icons, I get the following message

There may be a problem with the mail server, or the network. Check the settings for the account "xxxxxx@gmail.com", or try again.

The server returned the following error: Please log in via your web browser: https://support.google.com/mail/accounts/answer/78754 (Failure)

After searching for solutions in the setup of the program I found a solution that works. I had to log in to my Google account to change the security settings to more vulnerable or less secure. Do not understand why e-mail program that included operating system requires this suddenly. And what does this for me?

Can anyone help? I would like of course to have the highest security on my macbook pro. Have access to these gmail accounts on the iPhone, the iPad and apps that can be used without never had to make changes to the security settings of the Goggle. And therefore finds it very strange that "Mail" on the operating system on my macbook has problems.

Sorry that the text is poorly written. My text is translated from Norwegian into English, which you can also look at the attachment.

Found this information(see under). But would like more info and better answer. Can anyone here give me better answers to my questions. Among other things. What is the consequence of choosing the less secure? Is the error at Apple/MAC OSX? Why have Thea not fixed this if the error is at Apple/MAC OSX?

    Open KeyChain Access in Applications/Utilities

    Search for "veri"

Check each entry and delete all the ones with a red warning (usually including "unauthorized" or "Unknown").

Note: you might want to start with a new Keychain. Change or reset the password of an OS X user account - Apple Support.... scroll down to Create a new login Keychain

Now that you have cleared up your keychain certificate issues, Quit Mail.

    • Remove your Gmail account in System Preferences > Internet Accounts by unchecking Mail in Gmail account.
    • Then in your User's Library > Mail V3 folder, find the Gmail folder and delete.

    V3 gmail sm.png

    • Go back to System Preferences > Internet Accounts and check Mail.
    • Open Mail and it should download with the correct security settings now.

If you are still having problems.....

Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or if it's your User's folder that contains the problem.

    CREATE A NEW USER

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Users & Groups.

Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.

You can skip signing in with your Apple ID. (don't sign in, skip, continue)

Only default Apple apps will  be in the Dock in the new User. Go to Applications to open other apps you might want to test.

    Open Mail.

Enter your Gmail email and password.

Do you still see the issue?

Hello. Thank you for your quick and detailed response . This was high above my level of knowledge regarding my macbook . Should therefore print your answers and pass on to a better qualified person who can help me understand. This takes time. But once again, thank you!

The easiest option is to create new Keychain.
