Q: Family sharing problems with books

Hello everyone

I am trying to sync some books my wife bought to my iPad and iPhone. We have two separate apple IDs which are setup for family sharing.

When I open iBooks on my iPhone an open the purchased books of my wife, all I see is the list of categorys and the number of books per category. If I "click" one of the categorys, nothing happens.

On our iMac, I can download and open her books with my AppleID in the iBooks App. However, when I try to sync it to my iPhone or iPad, first iTunes tells my to re-authorize my devices and I have to enter my AppleID password, then it tells me: "(booktitle) was not copied to the iPad "iPadName" because you are not authorized for it on this computer".

Any ideas what could be the problem?

Thanks.

    Perhaps this article might help:

If you don't see your family's shared content - Apple Support

By the way, is it ONLY with books?  What about something else like music?  What version of iOS are you using?  You need at least iOS version 8.  Also (from the above link), try:

Sign out of the iTunes & App Store

If you still can't see or download your family's shared content or use Apple Music, sign out of the iTunes & App Store, then sign back in.

To sign out on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, follow these steps:

    1. Go to Settings > iTunes & App Store.
    2. Tap your Apple ID > Sign Out.
    3. Enter your Apple ID password, then select Sign In.

Thanks for your answer. We have the newest iOS and OSX versions and current hardware (6 and 6s). For music it works normally, I can download my wifes purchased music in the itunes store app on the iphone and listen to it. I have tried signing out and in again (and also checked the other things in the link you posted), but it didn't help.

I think the issue here is that the content may not be eligible for sharing. Some books aren't allowed to be shared across different users. This goes to subscription services as well, and some publishers won't allow their products to be shared.

Does this issue persist for other books as well? If it is only for a certain book then it might be because of what I had mentioned.

    Good luck!

How can I check if the book can be shared? However I cannot load any of the 55 books she has bought, so I think this explanation is not very plausible. Also because I can load the books on the iMac but not on my mobile devices.

Additional information I forgot to mention: my wife can load the books I have bought on her devices.
