Mac yosemite osX ;Tried to import photos from SD card to folder. they came in to latest imports file but, could not move pics to appropriate file/folder.
Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)
How are you importing them?
Using iPhoto's import feature?
Using Photos import feature?
using another method?
There is separate forum for iPhoto (in iLife)
and Photos (in OSX since it comes with OSX)

Are you wanting your pictures to end up ONLY in Finder folders of files or in BOTH the Photos Library and Finder folders?
If you want them to end up ONLY in Finder folders, import them from the SD card using Image Capture instead of running them through the Photos application.
If you want them to wind up in BOTH places, you could use any of the following methods:
* Import them from the SD card into Photos, then export them from Photos to Finder folders.
* Import them from the SD card into Finder Folders with Image Capture, then import them from the folders into Photos.
* Import them from the SD card separately using both Photos and Image Capture.

Had not heard about image capture,
so will absorb information and have a go at down loading to file.

If you are using Photos for Mac you manage photos not files - folders in Photos do not contain Photos, they only contain other folders or albums
Everything in the Last Import album is in the library and in the Photos view and in all photos view - you can create albums and drag photos to them if you want more personal organization
You do not ever access your photos using the finder - you always use Photos or the media browser

This may account for why my pictures are duplicated,
Since changing from Microsoft to Mac mini
I have been going round the bend to try and understand
why nothing came up in my original filing.
Think I shall delete all from Mac and reload from Microsoft.

It probably makes sense to work with a small set of photos to learn and then after you learn to use Photos and how to manage photos rather than files as you did with Microsoft import the rest of your photos and mover forward - it also would make sense to take a Photos for Mac class at your local Apple Store
