I Just put a new SSD in my MacBook Pro, which currently runs 10.8.5.

I Was hoping to install El Capitan onto the SSD, but it wouldn't work, the progress bar during the installation did not move at all for hours.

I am now trying to install Mavericks onto the SSD. It has been stuck at between 20 minutes remaining and 18 minutes remaining for about 3 hours now (the number keeps changing).

I Checked the installer log and the last message is the following:

PackageKit: Extracting file://local host/Volumes/Mac%20OS%20X%20Install%20DVD/Packages/BaseSystemResources.pkg

i haven't seen any movement of the progress bar, nor any new messages in the Log for over 3 hours now

So so advice needed, should I quit and try again, or leave it running and see if it installs by the weekend?

any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks all
