Q: can i switch back from icloud photo library to photos app without losing pictures

I have my settings so that all my photos have been removed from iTunes and are now accessible via iCloud library, but I do not like the way they are stored in ALL PHOTOS rather than in their respective albums which I have spent hours upon hours sorting.

if I slide iCloud photo Library off, will everything go back to how it was (essentially, will my photos appear on my iPad in their albums??)

iPad Air, iOS 9.3.4

Images are not stored in iTunes, so I'm not sure what you removed and from where. Your photos and videos are stored and organized in the Photos app, both on your computer and on your iDevices. iCloud Photo Library is how they're synced between all your devices. This includes your albums. If you are not seeing albums on your iPad, perhaps you're not looking in the right place? One caveat is that you can't have nested folders.

You can safely turn off iCPL on your iPad and go back to using iTunes for syncing photos, but as I said, you should be seeing your albums with iCPL.
