if the system supports recovery mode and that is not how you are trying to DL the OS Id' try that

1. OS X Recovery (Command + R), which is a partition that OS X creates on your internal HDD when OS X is installed. If that isn't coming up on a reboot and pressing Command + R immediately after hearing the startup chime, then the partition isn't on your Mac.
2. OS X Internet Recovery (Command + Option + R) is an option to download and install OS X directly off Apple's servers over the internet. You need an to have the Mac connected to active internet connection to access OS X Internet Recovery. You will be offered the version of OS X that originally shipped installed on your Mac.
OS X Internet Recovery is working just fine. These photos were taken barely 5 minutes ago.
