Q: find my phone app devices are on line but not sharing location

I have iCloud family sharing set up with my son.  He has two apple devices, a Mac Mini running 10.11.16 and an iPad Pro 9.7 running iOS 9.3.4.  I am the organiser of family sharing and he is signed in as an adult.

until recently I was able to use Find my phone to see when online and the location (he is disabled and very useful to keep an eye).

I don't recall changing any settings but have lost the ability to see his location on both of his devices.  All mine show up fine. His two say Online, not sharing location with green dots to the left of their icons.

I have tried signing off from iCloud, turning off find my phone, turning off share my location on all the devices but the problem remains constant.  Each time I resign in to iCloud, select find my phone and share my location I can see my own kit but the same message for my sons.

I can log in to his Mac Mini and share his screen so I think connections are good.  Don't know what I am missing. Any ideas what I can try next?

Thanks

Mac mini (Late 2014), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

    Hello Tim Wilkins,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I understand from your post that you can no longer see your son's location from his devices. You have done some great troubleshooting so far. I also recommend checking the settings for sharing the location on our son's Mac Mini and iPad Pro. This article has the information you will need regarding Family Sharing and location:
