Q: Phone3G mail setup trouble

I've had to revert temporarily to a standby iPhone 3G.  I can't seem to get Gmail to work with the Mail app.  It says my username or password is incorrect, but it is not.  Any advice?

    Hello Slntplanet,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that you had to revert temporarily to a standby iPhone 3G, and now you can't seem to get Gmail to work with the Mail app. It is saying that your username and password is incorrect, but you are saying that it is not. That’s something I certainly wouldn’t want to have happening. I want to help you get your email.

Use Get help with Mail on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, specifically, this section:

Verify that your email account information and settings are correct

If Mail asks you to enter a password for your email account, make sure that the password you enter is correct. Sign in to your email provider's website to verify that your email address and password are correct.

When you set up your email account on your device, iOS automatically uses the correct account settings for many email providers. You can use the Mail Settings Lookup tool to view those settings, or get the settings directly from your email provider or system administrator. Then compare them to what you see entered for your email account.

Check the settings for your email account:

    1. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and tap your email account.
    2. Tap your email address next to Account to see the account information, such as the incoming and outgoing mail servers.
    3. Check the recommended settings for your email account in the Mail Settings Lookup tool and verify that they’re the same as what you see on your screen. If you don’t see the settings for your email account, contact your email provider.

You can access the Gmail web portal website here: Gmail

    Best Regards.

I am afraid none of this helps. I have checked my settings, the password is correct, and yet it still tells me that it is incorrect.

    Hello Slntplanet,

    Thanks for trying those steps.

It's possible that you might have a security feature enabled on your Gmail account called 2-Step Verification. The following resources from Google will assist you with this:

THank you.  I did that, but still it says my username or password are incorrect, yet they are correct.  Any other ideas?
