I keep getting a recurring warning that I need to download a JDK
What Mac model and sub-model? What Mac OS version?

happens on mine too, just updated to Sierra 10.12; iMac Mid 2010

Please start a new discussion for your problem in the forum here:
The one you found is for pre-2006 iMacs that cannot run Sierra; the link takes you to the forum for modern iMacs. Also, it is very hard for the helpers here to serve more that one person per thread and avoid a lot of confusion and potentially inappropriate advice. Plus the OP in this thread has never clarified his equipment type.
