Q: iMessage not working..

Hello all,

So..I believe this to be a unique problem because none of the apple support fixes for a broken iMessage work.

I am in a group message with 5 others on my phone and macbook (they're linked via same icloud account.)

I cannot send iMessage messages to this group message on either devices, however I can receive them. It instantly goes to SMS and does not send if I specifically try to reply.

iMessage works PERFECTLY FINE with all other contacts AND group messages.

But that's not it! There is also another group message I am in.. and in this group message I can reply on my phone via iMessage but cannot send from my macbook. What is going on? I'm sick and tired of all these iMessage problems with my new devices.

I have the Early 2015 Macbook Pro 13" with Retina. Running iOS X El Capitan 10.11.6

My iPhone is an iPhone 5 running iOS 9.3.4.

    Well hey there, Zshawn!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! Group messaging is a great way to stay in touch with friends, family and many more! I have several group message threads myself. Seems like this generally works with the exception of one thread where your content is sent as an SMS text or not at all. The second thread that is not allowing you to reply on the MacBook Pro may be a similar or unrelated issue. The great news is, we have a few fixes.

Out of curiosity, are any members of the first group message, non-iPhone users? That would cause the group conversation to send as SMS messages. The following resource has items that you may have already attempted. Take a spin through this article in order and test after each step. If the messages are still experiencing an issue after each step, confirm that you have "Text Message Forwarding" enabled on your iPhone under Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding.

If you can‘t send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Text Message Forwarding should help resolve the second group message. Additionally, feel free to have your group members utilize this article on their end. We want to confirm that all of their devices are configured to receive your messages correctly. As a last resort, you can save any important information from those threads and then delete the thread and re join the group.

Thanks for your continued patience as we work to resolve this with you. Have a phenomenal day!
